Using the toolbar and Movie menu
The toolbar and Movie menu each provide tools while you're working in Layout Editing view. Any changes or additions you make while working in this view are reflected and saved in the corresponding inspectors, which you can also use at any time to make changes to properties while you're working in Layout Editing view.
The toolbar provides the following buttons for Layout Editing view:
The Position/Resize Track button ( ) lets you position or resize the track. If you work with the Grid turned on (choose Movie > Show Grid), you can make your changes using the Grid as a guide. With the Snap To Grid feature on, any change you make in position or size will snap to the closest grid coordinate. Turn off Snap To Grid to have more flexibility in track placement.The Skew Track button ( ) lets you stretch the track into a parallelogram-type of shape. Simply select the track, and grab one of the blue handles with your mouse cursor and drag the track until you reach a desired shape.The Rotate Track button ( ) lets you turn the track in any direction you want, up to a complete rotation of 360 degrees. Select the track, and grab one of the blue handles with your mouse cursor and drag the track until you reach a desired newly rotated position.The Lock and Unlock Track buttons ( ), ( ) let you lock and unlock the selected track. With a locked track, when you select it, the handles will be dimmed and you cannot make any changes to it. The locked track will have the word (Locked) in parenthesis behind the track name in the track bar, and the corresponding inspector properties will be dimmed.The Bring to Front button ( ) places the selected track all the way to the front of the layering order. You can bring the selected track forward one layer at a time using the Movie menu. Choose Movie > Track > Bring Forward to do this.The Send Back button ( ) places the selected track all the way to the back of the layering order. You can send the selected track backward one layer at a time using the Movie menu. Choose Movie > Track > Send Backward to do this.
The Movie menu provides the following menu items for Layout Editing view:
Choose Movie > Show or Hide TimeLine to display or hide the TimeLine Window.Choose Movie > Hide or Show Ruler to display or hide the Ruler.Choose Movie > Hide or Show Grid to display or hide the Grid.Choose Movie > Snap To Grid to turn this function on or off. A check mark next to Snap To Grid shows that this function is turned on. Snap To Grid forces the track to snap into place to the closest grid coordinate when you're moving the track. Turning off this function allows more flexibility of placement.Choose Movie > Track > Bring To Front or Bring Forward to move the track to the very front of the layering order, or to move the track forward one layer at a time, respectively.Choose Movie > Track > Send Backward or Send To Back to move the track backward one layer at a time, or to move the track to the very back of the layering order, respectively.Choose Movie > View Sizes to zoom the track in or out, or to view the track in different percentage sizes.
